Every business on the pet directory website is approved by us before it goes live, but we don’t vet or check businesses independently. Please take the time to make sure a business is right for you and your pet.

For anyone caring for your pet

  • Meet them before you book, ideally with your pet, and see how they get on.
  • For anyone caring for your pet in your home, ask whether they’ll show you a Ministry of Justice criminal record check. It’s free and they can request it online themselves.
  • Ask whether they have insurance, and what happens if your pet is unwell or injured in their care.
  • Agree the details in writing: dates, costs, feeding, medication, and an emergency contact.
  • Book a short trial first if you can, such as a day visit or one night.

When buying online

  • Check the business has a New Zealand contact address, phone number or email.
  • Read their returns, refunds and delivery details before you pay.
  • Pay through a secure checkout, and be wary of requests to pay by bank transfer only.
  • For food and treats, check the ingredients and any storage or use-by information.

Trust your instincts. If something doesn’t feel right, keep looking.

Any agreement you make is between you and the business. K9andKats can’t take part in disputes, but please tell us if you have a concern about a listing so we can review it.
